About the programme

Changing Lives Through Horses (CLTH) is a programme of ongoing regular sessions, taking place at our BHS Approved Riding Centre with qualified and experienced BHS Accredited Professional Coaches during term time.

CLTH is an educational & character building programme which encompasses the development of Life Skills & academic achievement within an equine environment.

The programme is suitable for young people, aged 7-25, who are either permanently excluded, at risk of permanent exclusion or who have special education needs or disabilities (SEND) and those who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET). They may also be at risk of becoming socially excluded with income below the poverty line and without the skills to improve their economic situation.

The programme does not require the participant to have any previous experience of working with horses or the outdoors; they simply have to show a desire to be in this environment. It is also not necessary for the participant to learn to ride as part of this programme.

The programme utilises a range of awards and achievements to create a community for development, learning and celebration. The programme awards are structured around promoting the holistic development of all involved and nurturing six life skills for all young people: building relationships, communication, confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance, whilst linked towards the National Curriculum.

Our CLTH sessions are run term time on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays 11.30am - 2.30pm.

There are no set weeks to complete awards/achievements, as we understand everyone learns & develops at their own pace.

Participants can attend one or more sessions a week, depending on availability & participants funding provider.
